Women's Equality Day

Women's Equality Day

“The War of the Roses” was coined during votes to ratify the 19th Amendment of the US Constitution - when Suffragists distributed yellow roses to the supporters of women’s right, and anti-Suffragists handed out red roses for opposing the equal voting rights of women.  A Congressman's red rose craftily conveyed a view quite opposite love and affection for women in society.  How curious today that the sincerest male-to-female apologies are often paired with a bouquet of flowers!

Fumiyo Yoshikawa

Fumiyo Yoshikawa
I paint my daughter, Madoka, and her dreams. Madoka means “circle,” a Japanese metaphor for peace, happiness, wholeness, and inclusiveness. When I gave birth, I named my daughter Madoka, wishing her to be generous and peaceful like the sun, calm and gentle like the moon.

Arbor Day : The Start of Planting Anew

April 10, 1872 - The first Arbor Day.  J.S. Morton taught us the importance of respecting nature, and replenishing this vital trunk of environmental nourishment. Trees provide oxygen, improve air quality, help conserve water, preserve soil, and support wildlife.

Celebrate Arbor Day this year by planting a tree (bushes or flowers) and in doing so, learn here why we do.
