Women's Equality Day

Women's Equality Day

“The War of the Roses” was coined during votes to ratify the 19th Amendment of the US Constitution - when Suffragists distributed yellow roses to the supporters of women’s right, and anti-Suffragists handed out red roses for opposing the equal voting rights of women.  A Congressman's red rose craftily conveyed a view quite opposite love and affection for women in society.  How curious today that the sincerest male-to-female apologies are often paired with a bouquet of flowers!

The month of August celebrates Women's Equality Day, an historical acknowledgment of the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, allowing American white women the right to vote, granting them essentially equal say about community, career and personal health.  Jill Banks worked for a marketing communications company for 16 years before changing careers and becoming a painter.
