Exploration helps determine where art exists. We believe it exists in everything we do, see and experience. The Art @ Henson-Parks, Inc.’s The Art In … Art + Awareness Initiative is an integral part of the organization’s mission. This program uses pop-up arts education WORKSHOPS to engage public participants to utilize arts & crafts in a fun and entertaining, which can also garner first-hand knowledge about a special event, specific cause, social platform, and/or cultural issue. The undertaking to be active, while also create for a cause, promotes social and self-awareness, and in a very imaginative way encourages community connections.
BENEFITS AND REWARDS
When engaging an individual in a manner that may be deemed slightly unconventional, invokes curiosity, and even fun, the absorption of knowledge becomes an organic experience. Using artistic tools encompassing creative thinking and problem solving, intertwined with cultural awareness, can bolster an individual’s desire to become an active participant in their environment. Just by participating in one workshop, or following us on social media to regularly participate, you can become well-informed of important, current, communal issues and you can help bring light to them via collaborative visual installations.
All equipment, tools and necessary supplies are provided.
Once a month, for an hour or more, in varying locations throughout New York City, and in surrounding areas, we host an art pop-up that offers instruction to children and/or adults. We create an activity that uses simplicity, color, creativity, and education. Workshops are taught by Teaching Artists whose talents envelop a multitude of artistic platforms. Workshops are usually held on a monthly basis in various locations so as to engage a wide audience. Six of our workshops are produced explicitly in Queens with the support of the Queens Council on The Arts. You can join in once or choose to become a regular participant. Time and location are determined based on the artistic format and target audience.
